Ideye scored 7 goals in 31 appearances for West Brom

Super Eagles’ striker, Brown Ideye has taken to his official twitter handle to disclose the major reason he was not successful during his short spell at English top flight, West Bromich Albion.

Ideye was signed by West Brom to beef-up their attacking line during the July transfer window in 2014 but the 28-year-old striker could not hit the ground running as he struggled to adapt to the English top flight football league.

He made 19 appearances for the club in all competitions but scored only 7 goals.

Ideye said the poor preseason preparations got the best of him because he had little time to join the preseason training.

“I signed a deal and returned to Nigeria to get a work permit, which took me a month. My problem at West Brom was the preseason.

“We were in the USA for preseason but I had just a week or so to train with them; my poor pre-season affected me”, said Ideye.

Ideye, who has scored 13 goals for Greek side, Olympiacos this season, further called for support for players back home so that they can get international recognition.

“Players need real backing from organisations in Nigeria for us to get recognitions, just like brands out here in Europe do,” Ideye disclosed.

Ideye has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season.

Ideye will however not be part of his team that will face Osmanlispor in the Europa League on Thursday night due to a shoulder injury.

“I will not be on the bench. I’ll be in the stands supporting @olympiacos_org in the Europa. I suffered a shoulder injury. I have had a scan on the shoulder after it became a little bit discomforting. So I’ll miss the Osmanlispor game,” Ideye concluded.
