Four Nigerians were on the losing side in an all-Belgian Europa League round of 16 game as their club KAA Gent lost 2-5 against KRC Genk.
19 year old Samuel Kalu scored in the 27th minute and that was after Genk had gone ahead in the 21st minute.
He was also brought down inside the box in the 67th minute for a penalty, which was however saved by the Genk goalkeeper.
Anderson Esiti saw red in the 84th minute after his second booking of the night.
The second leg at Genk will be played on Thursday with the overall winners progressing to the quarterfinals.
Esiti, who plays in the centre of the midfield, started for Gent, while Rabiu Ibrahim came on at the start of the second half.
Moses Simon, who is just recovering from injury, started from the bench and was introduced in the 76th minute to complete a quartet of Nigerians who featured for Gent.
