Former governor of Abia State and Pillar of Sports, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has taken a swipe at Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung on his skewed approach towards the recently concluded CAF elections.
Kalu, who led Enyimba Int’l to conquer the African continent after winning the CAF Champions League twice, said Dalung could have been more diplomatic in his position before the elections.
“As far as I’m concerned, it was a wrong strategy by the Minister of Sports to come out openly to direct Pinnick on who to support or not.”
“In sports, its not always good. No matter the friendship, no matter what was involved, he should have been advised properly so that he’ll be able to make a decision. But coming openly to side a contestant is not good. I believe Nigeria should make a U-turn to make amends with Ahmad Ahmad and others,” said Kalu.
Dalung had put NFF President Amaju Pinnick who was part of the new generation presidents seeking a change in CAF, under alarming pressure.
In the end, Ahmad Ahmad of Sudan emerged as CAF President beating long-serving incumbent, Issa Hayatou, while the NFF Ppresident Amaju Pinnick also won a sit on the CAF Executive Committee.
Orji added: “I respect the opinion of people who were independent to vote for another candidate. Issa Hayatou had done 29 years in CAF and is not feeling very well. Health wise, he is not really good and competent.”
