Abia Warriors coach Abdullahi Biffo has said that one thing that baffles him about NPFL players, especially the highest goals corers, is how they use to struggle the next season after emerging the highest goal scorer in the NPFL.
The former Niger Tornadoes coach, said that the goals attackers are scoring should be looked into to determine if they are always penalties, offsides or their individual talents before being celebrated.
Biffo in an exclusive interview with Aoifootball.com, noted that it is high time things change in the league.
“What baffles me is that in our league, any player that tops the goals chart will struggle the next season, or would try to tie down a deal abroad, only to return back home.”
“It is time for us to look at the goals our attackers are scoring and determine if it is through penalties, or through their individual performances before we can really come out and celebrate such players.
“You cannot see Brazil’s highest goals scorer struggling to get a club in Europe. Europe will be looking for them but the Nigerian case is not like that. We have to amend the way we handle our league so as to prepare our players psychologically.”
“I was so surprised when Obaje toured the world and yet didn’t get a club and he was our highest goals scorer last season. I think this is time for us to take things seriously and really know who our highest goals scorer is; the major problem is every club wants whoever that is leading in goal to continue taking penalties but I think this will not help the players,” reasoned Biffo.
