Having scored 2 goals in 29 appearances for MVV Maastricht, on-loan Arsenal midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali got his third goal for the Sterrendragers in the Dutch playoffs in a match against SC Cambuur on Thursday.
Nwakali’s 8th minute strike was MVV Maastricht’s only goal of the game as both sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
The teenager dazzled at the 2015 U-17 World Cup in Chile with a series of sizzling performances in Nigeria’s green and white colours. He got 3 goals to his name and also picked up the prestigious Golden ball award.
Nwakali caught the eye of Arsenal scouts and was signed to the English Premier League giants afterwards.
On the 16th of September last year, the young lad got shipped out on loan to MVV Maastricht till the end of the current campaign. Interestingly, he made his debut on that same day in a 1-0 winner against Jong Ajax.
The former Diamond Football Academy man has contributed to MVV Maastricht’s push for a spot in the Dutch Eredivise next season with his 2 goals and 3 assists prior to this match.
The attacking midfielder has been named one of Arsenal’s Best Performing Youth Players the Season, and bagged the Best Loanee Award ahead of the likes of Chuba Akpom and Aaron Eyoma.
MVV Maastricht face SC Cambuur away in the second encounter of the double-legged tie on Sunday, 21st May.
