South Africa Football Association President, Dr. Danny Jordaan is still relishing Bafana Bafana’s win over the Super Eagles of Nigeria 17 days after the feat at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, reports AOIFootball.com.
Before the 2-0 win, South Africa had never won any competitive game against Nigeria, a dominance which spanned over 25 years but Jordaan said the supremacy Nigeria had over the Mzansi nation in football is all over.
“These are exciting times for South African football. We beat Nigeria in Nigeria and it could easily have been by a far bigger margin but it was a massive win nonetheless. So, I think this history and fear of playing against Nigeria has been dismissed after the boys gave a good account of themselves and that is a significant first match for our qualification for the 2019 AFCON,” Jordaan told safa.net.
The astute administrator also believes wins over Libya and Seychelles for Bafana will see them through to the 2019 finals billed to be staged in Cameroon.
“We now have to play Libya and Seychelles and if we win those matches, then we will have a foot in the door for CAF AFCON 2019.”
After Match day 1, Libya tops group E after whitewashing the whipping boys of the group Seychelles 5-1, followed by South Africa who stunned Nigeria 0-2 in their backyard, they are now with no point and are third while Seychelles stay bottom.
The 2019 Afcon qualifiers will resume in March 2018.
