Former Super Eagles’ winger Emmanuel Amunike, has said that Nigeria’s drop in the latest FIFA rankings should not be dwelled upon by team’s handlers or players, but “they should rather focus on their quest for a World Cup ticket and not on mathematical additions or subtractions called ranking”.
The former Barcelona star told Aoifootball.com exclusively that FIFA rankings will not give Nigeria any point against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, whom he believes the team needs to beat to boost their chances of picking the 2018 World Cup ticket in Russia.
“Personally, I think FIFA rankings add nothing to us nor reduce anything from us.
“All we need to do now is to focus on how we are going to play Cameroon and defeat them, and not dwell on the mathematics of addition and reduction that FIFA adds one point and reduces five points. FIFA Ranking will not give us a result against Cameroon.
“We should remain focused and work out a strategy to beat Cameroon, because if we can beat them here, we will be on 9 points and then our chances will be clearer to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia,” reasoned Amuneke.
