As the date to the make or mar World Cup qualifiers between the Super Eagles and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon draws closer, AOIFootball.com can exclusively report that Hapoel Be’er Sheva striker, Anthony Nwakaeme has finally gotten his first call up for Nigeria.
The 28-year-old striker has been in fantastic form, but has been overlooked by previous handlers of the national team.
Coach Gernot Rohr had promised Nigerians that no stone would be left unturned has he looks to select the best players to prosecute the all-important match against Cameroon.
Nwakaeme, who was voted the best player in the Israeli league last season, scored for Be’er Sheva in their first leg Champions League playoff against Maribor, to put his club within touching distance of the group stage proper.
The striker started his career on loan to Romanian club Arieșul Turda in 2010 from Universitatea Cluj. He played eight games and scored 5 goals.
In January 2011, he returned to Universitatea Cluj where he appeared in 28 matches and scored 7 goals.
In the 2012–13 season, he spent the first half at Petrolul Ploiești, And played only 3 games.
In February 2013, He returned to Universitatea Cluj and featured in 10 matches, scoring 2 goals.
On 13 August 2013, he signed for Israeli side Hapoel Ra’anana. On August 31, he scored a goal on his Israeli Premier League debut, a 1-1 draw against
On 24 June 2015 he signed for Hapoel Be’er Sheva. On 3 October 2015, he scored his debut goal for Be’er Sheva.
The Lagos-born forward has scored over 30 goals for Be’er Sheva in about 70 matches.
