Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has expressed his delight with the performance of his teammates against the Black Stars of Ghana at the ongoing WAFU sub-regional Cup tournament.
Ezenwa, who kept his third clean sheet of the tournament, told AOIFootball.com that he was happy with the outcome of the game, as Nigeria continued its dominance over perennial rivals, Ghana.
“I have to thank God Almighty for the victory, because without Him, it won’t have been an easy one for us. We will now focus on the next game and try to improve on our overall game play.
“It was a collective effort; everybody worked together because we knew what was at stake,” Ezenwa said.
The home-based Super Eagles’ captain also praised the fantastic effort of his defenders who have been rock solid throughout the competition, locking out every obstacle coming their way.
“I have to thank my defenders because they have been doing very well and we always put our heads together to make sure we do our best for our beloved country Nigeria.
“It’s a thing of joy not to have conceded a goal so far and I give kudos to my defenders and the team because it all boils down to team work.”
Ezenwa has been in fantastic form for both the Super Eagles main team and the Home-based team and has not conceded a goal from open play while in goal in the last 7 matches against Togo, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Sierra Leone, Mali and Ghana.
He however conceded just twice from penalties against Cameroon and Benin Republic.
