Man on fire, Odion Ighalo netted four times against Guizhou Zhicheng at the weekend

 

 

It was a mixed weekend for Nigerian players across the globe as China based Odion Ighalo and Paul Onuachu who plays in Denmark continue to lead the line for their respective clubs, while Leon Balogun’s return to first team football for the first time in a month was cut short by a cheek injury.

ENGLAND

Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Ihenacho and Ahmed Musa: super eagles defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was on from start to finish as Leicester city won their first away game of the season with a 1-2 win away at Swansea who had Tammy Abraham also feature from start to finish.

Kelechi Iheanacho was only good for the substitute bench while Ahmed Musa was not dressed for the 9th consecutive EPL match.

Alex Iwobi: Super Eagles attacker Alex Iwobi was on the bench for the entire duration as Arsenal heaped more pressure on Ronald Koeman with a 5-2 thrashing of Everton.

Ola Aina: Super Eagles utility defender Ola Aina was on from start to finish as Hull City beat Barnsley 1-0 away from home in the English Championship.

 

AUSTRIA

Ibrahim Alhassan: Former Akwa United midfielder Ibrhaim Alhassan  was on for all 90 minutes as Austria Vienna lost 1-0 at home to Rapid Vienna, with Alhassan picking up a yellow card in the 10th minute of the match.

 

BELGIUM

 Henry Onyekuru: Nigeria striker Henry Onyekuru was on from start to finish as Anderlecht lost 0-1 at home to Genk.

Moses Simon, Anderson Esiti, Samuel Kalu and Abdul Ajagun: Super Eagles winger Moses Simon scored his first goal of the season as KAA Gent drew 1-1 away at KV Kortrijk who had Abdul Ajagun on their books.

Moses and Ajagun were on for all 90 minute while Anderson Esiti and Samuel Kalu featured for 86 and 23 minutes respectively.

Dennis Emmanuel Bonaventure: 19 year old Emmanuel was unable to add to his 5 league goals as Club Brugge continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 home win against Antwerp.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Uche Agbo: Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored his fourth league goal of the season and five in all competitions, for Royal Excel Mouscron who lost 3-1 at home to Uche Agbo’s Standard Liege.

The 20 year old Awoniyi restored parity for Royal Excel Mouscron four minutes into the second half after Sebastien Locigno’s scored an own goal in the 33rd minute.

Uche Agbo was on for all 90 minutes

 

CHINA

Odion Ighalo: Super Eagles’ striker Odion Jude Ighalo scored once and assisted another as Changchun Yatai came from behind to beat Jiangsu Suning 3-1.

Ighalo has now scored 15 league goals in the Chinese super league.

Mikel Obi: Super Eagles captain Mikel John Obi was on the winning side as his side Tianjin TEDA beat Beijing Guoan 2-0 to confirm their stay in the Chinese Super league for another season.

The Eagles captain was on for the entire duration.

 

CZECH REPUBLIC

Ubong Ekpai: Nigeria striker Ubong Ekpai opened scoring for Zlin in a 5-1 trashing at home by visiting Mlada Boleslav.

 

 

DENMARK

Paul Onuachu and Rilwan Hassan: Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu continued his fine form in front of goal when he grabbed the 4th goal for FC Midjtylland in a 4-2 win at home to AC Horsens.

The 23 year old attacker has now scored 8 league goals in just 7 starts, while fellow Nigerian Rilwan Hassan was on the bench for the entire match duration.

 

FINLAND

Gbolahan Salami and Gabriel Reuben: Nigerian striker Gbolahan Salami was the hero for KuPS Kupio as they they beat JJK 2-1 at home.

Salami scored the winning goal less than 40 seconds after coming on in the 68th minute of the match.

Gabriel Reuben was on from start to finish and picked up a yellow card in the second half.

 

FRANCE

Chidozie Awaziem: Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem scored his first goal of the season as Nantes continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win at home to Guingamp.

 

GERMANY

Leon Balogun: Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was on till the 79thminute when he sustained a cheek injury in FSV Mainz 2-0 loss away at Schalke 04.

Felix Udokhai and Victor Osimhen: German born Nigerian young star Felix Udokhai grabbed an injury time equaliser for Wolfsburg as they drew 1-1 at home to Hoffenheim.

Victor Osimhen was not listed by Wolfsburg.

 

HOLLAND

Tyronne Ebuehi and Kelechi Nwakali: Super Eagles right back Tyronne Ebuehi was voted the man of the match as he grabbed an assist and helped ADO Den Haag to their 3rd clean sheet of the season when they beat VVV-Venlo who had Kelechi Nwakali on their books away from home.

Ebuehi was provider for the first goal just after the hour mark when he teed up Erik Falkenburg to open scoring.

Kelechi Nwakali featured for just 7 minute in the encounter.

 

ITALY

Sadiq Umar: Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Sadiq Umar was on for the entire duration as Torino who are still missing the services of Nigeria international Joel Obi through injury lost 1-0 at home to AS Roma.

ISRAEL

Blessing Chibuike: Nigerian international Blessing Chibuike Eleke scored the winning goal for Israeli side Ashdod SC in their 1-2 win away to Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv.

 

NORWAY

Anthony Ideki and Shuaibu Lalle Ibrahim: Nigeria’s duo of Anthony and Shuaibu were on for 90 minute respectively but could not replicate last week’s heroics as Haugesund lost 1-0 away at Molde.

Chidiebere Nwakali: former under 17 world cup star and Manchester City loanee Chidiebere Nwakali was on from start to finish as Sogndal played out a pulsating 3-3 draw at home to Sarpsborg.

Chidere Ejuke: 19 year old Nigerian striker Chidere Ejuke was on for all 90 minute as his side Valerenga thrashed Viking 7-1 away from home.

 

PORTUGAL

Oghenekaro Etebo: Super eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo put in a man of the match performance as CD Feirense beat Rio Ave 1-0 at the Estadio Marcolino de Castro.

Etebo was on for all 90 minute as Feirense climbed to the 9th position with 11 points from 9 games.

RUSSIA

Sylvester Igbonu: Nigeria striker Sylverster Igbonu a.k.a ‘Sly’ for short, was on from start to finish as his side FC Ufa came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at SKA-Khabarovsk, Kehinde Fatia was also introduced for Ufa with 6 minute of regulation time left.

 

TURKEY

Ogenyi Onazi: Super Eagles vice captain Ogenyi Onazi returned to action after recovering from an hamstring injury sustained on international duties, but could not help 9 man Trabzonspor from going down 1-0 away at Yeni Malatyaspor.

Onazi was on for 60 minutes before been withdrawn for Abdulkadir Omur.

Kenneth Omeruo and Samuel Eduok: Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo was on from start to finish as Kasimpasa lost for the second consecutive week when they fell 2-1 away at Antalyaspor.

Samuel Eduok was not listed by Kasimpasa.

William Troost Ekong and Mikel Agu: Super Eagles duo of Troost Ekong and Mikel Agu were both on parade for 90 minute as Bursaspor drew goalless away at Sivasspor who were missing the services of Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile through injury.

Umar Aminu and Raheem Lawal: Olympic bronze medallist Umar Aminu was on from start to finish as Osmanlispor destroyed visiting Kardemir Karabuk 3-0 with compatriot Raheem Lawal confined to the bench for the entire duration.

 

KAZAKHSTAN

Emeka Anene: Nigeria international Emeka  Chuma Anene opened scoring for Kairat Almaty in their 2-1 win over Akzhaiyk Uralsk.
