Head Coach of Nigerian Professional League champions, Plateau United, Kennedy Boboye, has debunked news linking him and the club with an approach for CHAN Eagles left-back, Chima Akas.
Boboye, who spoke to AOIFootball.com in an exclusive interview, said the media should be cautious of what they report in order not to misinform the public.
“For Chima Akas, it was a false story. I never pencilled his name as one of the players I need in my team, so when I heard the story, I was surprised because I go for only the players I think will play with me. I never made mention of Chima Akas in my team.
“We have gotten close to about nine players to strengthen the team because these are players we saw in the league last season and I believe they can add something to the team ahead of next season’s title defence,” Boboye said.
Boboye also posited that although the club has been in contact with a few players, no contract has been given to any of them yet.
“Negotiations are not a yardstick that a player has been signed; we have not given them contract forms to sign but we negotiated with them and asked them to give us permission to speak with their previous clubs to indicate our interest in them”, Boboye concluded.
Plateau United are looking to fortify their squad ahead of their maiden continental engagement and have also recruited NNL top shot Tosin Omoleye from Osun United.
