Gambia’s Banjul Hawks have stunned Akwa United 2-1 away at the Godswill Akapabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Promise Keepers dominated possession from start to finish in the game but were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal.
The visitors started brightly with Mohammed Jallow putting the Hawks in front in the 11th minute, while Lamine Chatty extended the lead in the 34th minute.
Victor Mbaoma ensured a nervy end to the game by reducing the deficit for the hosts on the 72nd minute.
It was Abdul Maikaba’s men’s first defeat at home in all competitions this season. The Promise Keepers, who now have all to do, will travel to the Gambia for the return leg in a fortnight to try to get a result.
