Ahead of Wednesday’s CAF Confederations Cup round of 32 first leg clash against Libyan side Al-Ittihad, Head Coach of Akwa United, Abdul Maikaba is adamant his team will come out of the clash with a positive result after carefully understudying Ittihad ahead of the match.
The Akwa United handler, who spoke to AOIFootball.com shortly before the team’s departed for Tunis, said his players are well motivated for the clash and will draw inspiration from their last clash in the Gambia to upset their opponents.
“We have finished all our homework on our opponents and we are fully ready for the match and come Wednesday, I am confident of a positive outcome.
“I have an idea of what to expect from them because I was able to see the clips of their first-round clash against Sahel of Niger, so I will say they are a very good and composed side but we have a strategy in play to get a very decent result away from home,” Maikaba said.
The Flying Eagles’ tactician also gave an update on his team’s health bill, saying only Eagles’ midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi will miss the encounter after failing to recover from the injury he sustained on international duty.
“For now, everybody is fit and ready to play with the exemption of Ifeanyi who has not trained since returning from the CHAN tournament. With the right reactions from my players we can beat any team that comes our way in this competition,” Abdul Maikaba concluded.
The 2017 Aiteo Cup winners will square up against Al-Ittihad of Libya on Wednesday in Tunis with a place in the round of 16 up for grabs.
