Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Amuneke says he wishes experienced Super Eagles’ left-back Elderson Echiejile would be at his very best when the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off in June.
The former African Footballer of the Year, who spoke on a monitored programme on Brila FM, posited that the Cercle Brugge FC of Belgium defender’s experience will be needed at the Mundial and hopes Gernot Rohr sticks with the former Standard Liege player.
“Echiejile still stands out as the most experienced left back we have at the moment. My only prayer is that he would be at his best during the World Cup; no one can take away his experience and it will pay off in Russia,” he said.
Echiejile joined table-topping Belgian second division side Cercle Brugge in the January transfer window from Turkey’s Sivasspor SK as he sought for playing time ahead of the World Cup in June.
Echiejile is among 28 players invited by Coach Gernot Rohr for the high profile international friendlies against Poland and Serbia later this month.
