Akwa United capped a great day for Nigerian clubs on the continent as they secured their passage into the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup after defeating Al-Ittihad of Libya 3-2 in the second leg tie on penalties after the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Promise Keepers, AOIFootball.com reports.

Aniekeme Asuquo scored the only goal in the 46th minute during regulation time.

Al-Ittihad were reduced to 10-men when Abdullah Abdelsalam pushed the referee after a decision went against them, another player Alaquob Adelsalam was also red carded for the same offence.

With the results, Akwa United booked their place in the final elimination round of the ongoing CAF Confederations Cup.
