Enyimba FC of Aba have qualified for the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup after defeating Energies FC 3-2 at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Sunday, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Peoples’ Elephants thus completed a 5-2 aggregate success following a 2-0 win earlier recorded in the first leg.
The opening goal was to be Bashir’s after testing Energie FC goalie in the first minutes.
Energie equalized in the 62nd minute as Jules Elegbede deflected a low shot past Ezenwa. Chinonso Okonkwo gave Enyimba the lead in the 67th minute.
In the 89th minute, the visitors were back on level terms via an excellent free-kick.
However, in the 92nd minute, Chinonso Okonkwo converted from the spot kick after he was brought down inside the box.
Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa made his debut for Enyimba following his move from FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
Club Chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu was pleased with the result, whilst saying that the team was prepared for the challenges ahead.
“I am happy with the result because the boys were very professional. The journey to glory has just begun. We must work harder because subsequent matches will be more difficult than this,” he told AOIFootball.com.
