Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has played down suggestions that the injury he sustained on Wednesday while in goal for Enyimba International of Aba against Kwara United in a rescheduled week 16 game in the NPFL, saying it was just a slight knock which he will recover from in a few days.
The former FC Ifeanyi Ubah shot-stopper, who only started his second game since joining the People’s Elephant at the beginning of the season, spoke to AOIFootball.com via telephone shortly after the game and confirmed it was just a minor strain.
“Yes, I was substituted in the game after going down. I felt the pain when I tried to play out a goal kick; maybe the synthetic pitch could have caused the injury. But it was nothing too serious I am fine now and walking well. I will be back in a couple of days,” Ezenwa said.
He further thanked Nigerians for showing concern as he has been getting lots of messages immediately after the game, whilst also imploring all Nigerians to continue to pray for all the players to be injury-free before the World Cup.
