Head Coach of Belgium league club Anderlecht, Hein Van Haezebrouck, has incurred the wrath of the fans after his decision to drop a fit-again striker, Henry Onyekuru after their 3-1 at home by Standard Liege, AOIFootball.com reports.
The striker was surprisingly omitted from the game despite making the bench for their previous game over the weekend.
However, AOIFootball.com exclusively gathered that there is an issue with both the player and the coach that led to his absence, a situation that could cost the young star a place in the Eagles’ 35-man provisional list.
It is understood that the club are trying to force the player to remain with them next season but Onyekuru wants to play at the World Cup so he could secure a work permit that will see him play in a bigger league next season.
Onyekuru revealed to this medium earlier that he had been given the all-clear by the medical team to return to action three weeks ago, but still remains in shock that he has only featured for the reserve team during the period.
With Anderlecht now five points behind leaders Club Brugge, with just two rounds of matches left, it remains to be seen how both the club and management can handle the situation which could become ugly for both parties.
