Akwa United Head Coach, Abdul Maikaba has insisted his team have not given up on the Nigeria Professional League (NPFL) title race despite trailing runaway leaders, Lobi Stars by 11 points, AOIFootball.com reports.

Maikaba, who also doubles as the assistant coach of the Flying Eagles, told AOIFootball.com exclusively after the team’s game in Calabar, that the league crown is still very much open.

“Well, for me, I think the league is still open even though Lobi Stars are currently on top of the standings. It’s a marathon of matches and I believe there are still many matches to be played so I’m sure any team can still come from behind and top the table.

“For my team, I believe we have prepared very well and with the break ahead of us and the new players brought into the team, I’m confident we can blend and bring out a better team that will challenge and take us back to the top,” Maikaba concluded.

Akwa United are currently 8th on the NPFL table with 29 points from 20 games. First placed Lobi Stars have 40 points from 21 games.
