*Says excluded players are still part of the team

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has pleaded with all Nigerians to support his team as they fly out to represent the country in next month’s FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports.

The Franco-German coach who spoke to on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport ahead of his team’s departure to the UK where they will face England on Saturday further thanked President Buhari for his words of encouragement to the team earlier in the day.

“We had a reception this morning in the President’s house; it was wonderful! He encouraged our team to go out and do well at the World Cup in Russia.

“We had our last training session on Tuesday at our hotel and it was a very good one. Now we have 25 players who are traveling to London. Already you know Victor Moses is there so we will join him and prepare for the England match on Saturday,” Rohr said.

He continued by saying that the four players excluded from the England party are still members of the team as they will act as substitutes should any injury occur.

“Nobody is dropped; they are substitute for now and will train as standby players because we will need them to be ready in case of injury so that we can avoid what happened four years ago with Elderson. I hope nobody will get injured again, but nobody is dropped, everybody is part of the team.

“I want to also urge all Nigerians to please support us because we have the youngest squad in Russia; this means they may be a few inexperienced players but it can also work to our advantage as their enthusiasm can spring up surprises at the World Cup,” Rohr concluded.
