*Hails Presidency after farewell by Buhari
Super Eagles’ captain, John Obi Mikel has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his words of encouragement and support to the team, saying that they will make the country proud in Russia, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Tianjin Teda midfielder further thanked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for ensuring that issues regarding World Cup bonuses that had hindered the Eagles’ progress in previous tournaments have been well addressed before the Mundial in Russia.
“We would like to say a massive thank you for what you’ve been doing for Nigerian football. This is the first time we’re going to a competition like this with no issues of money/bonuses. All we have to do now is go out there and make Nigeria proud,” Mikel said.
The team has since arrived England in preparation for the pre-World Cup warm-up friendly game against the Three Lions of England in Wembley on Saturday.
They will then jet out to Austria to engage the Czech Republic four days later after which the team will depart to their Russia camp ahead of their opening Group D game against Croatia on June 16.
