Super Eagles’ defender, William Troost-Ekong has described Nigeria’s win against Iceland as a step in the right direction because it has lifted the team’s spirit to face Argentina, AOIFootball.com reports.

Ekong, who spoke exclusively to AOIFootball.com, said the Eagles are tactically ready to face Argentina on Tuesday.

“Our win against Iceland is a step in the right direction. We are going into the Argentina game with all confidence now.

“We can play different styles. Against two strikers like Iceland played, we had to play a 3-5-2. More so, the second half was better than the first. Maybe because it was such an important game. Iceland didn’t want to give anything away and neither did we.

“I think the second half opened up and we had to nail them,” Ekong said.

Concerning the upcoming game against Argentina at St Petersburg on Tuesday, Ekong said Nigeria has to win because the Iceland victory has offered a lifeline that must not be missed.

“We have to win. We have to try and get a result. Nothing changes but the good thing is that this now we have a chance to get something from that game. If we had lost against Iceland the Argentina game would have been a pointless one,” Ekong concluded.
