The Flying Eagles’ of Nigeria capped off a perfect Wednesday for Nigerian football as they came from behind to defeat arch-rivals Ghana 4-2 in their final game at the ongoing West Africa Union U-20 Championship holding in Lome, Togo, AOIFootball.com reports.
Needing a win to progress from Group B after drawing goalless in their opening game against Niger, the Flying Eagles went behind courtesy of an Emmanuel Toku strike in the 24th minute.
The Paul Aigbogun-led boys did, however, claw their way back into the tie just before halftime when the impressive Maxwell Michael equalized to draw them level.
Nigeria then turned on the heat in the second half with three more goals courtesy of Maxwell Michael, Wasiu Alalade and Ibrahim Abubakar before Ghana’s Emmanuel Toku scored his second and Ghana’s in the closing stages to add a little bit of decency to the score line.
The win ensures the Flying Eagles top Group B with four points ahead of Niger on goal difference and will take on Mali in the second semifinal on Friday after the Malians finished second in Group A.
