The Arab nation of Egypt is in pole position to host the first expanded African Cup of Nations in 2019 if reports emanating from CAF are anything to go by, AOIFootball.com reports.
According to an Egyptian-based journalist who tweeted that CAF favours the seven-time champions to host the biannual tournament ahead of South Africa, said they must first guarantee on security at match venues.
“Source told me about a week ago that CAF is leaning towards #Egypt as #AFCON2019 hosts, but awaits specific guarantees regarding security and attendance before making it official. Meanwhile, beIN Sports’ Hafid Derradji claims it’s already a done deal,” the journalist disclosed.
CAF last month withdrew the hosting right fro Cameroon sighting delays in their preparations which led to the new bid of South Africa and Egypt to lay claim to the hosting rights.
A final decision will be made in Senegal next month when the Executive Committee of CAF meets to decide on who would host the first 24-team AFCON.
