Super Eagles’ and Villarreal youngster, Samuel Chukwueze began the year on a good note as he impressed with an assist for his side in their 2-2 draw against Real Madrid on Thursday night in a rescheduled Matchday 17 clash, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 19-year-old started his 7th league game of the season and came closest to open the scoring but was denied by Thibaut Courtois in the Real Madrid goal.
But the home side did, however, take the lead minutes later when Chukwueze found Santi Carzola on the edge of the box and the midfielder expertly curled his effort past Courtois to give Villarreal a 4th-minute lead.
That lead, however, lasted for just three minutes before the visitors found themselves level courtesy of a Karim Benzema strike before Raphael Varane handed Madrid the lead on the night, halfway through the first half.
With time ticking on both sides and Madrid looking contented to seat on the 2-1ead, Santi Carzola again struck for the hosts eight minutes from time to ensure the Yellow Submarines move out of the relegation zone but remain level on points with Athletic Bilbao.
Chukwueze played for the entire match duration and had a game rating of 7.6, completing 66% of his passes, made one key pass and had three goal-bound efforts blocked by opposition defenders.
He also won 8 of his 16 duels contested and completed 6 of his 8 dribbles to cap off a decent outing.
