Nigerian international, Junior Ajayi returned to action or the first time in five months, coming off the bench to help his Egyptian side Al Ahly earn an impressive 1-1 draw away at Algeria’s JS Saoura in the CAF Champions League, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 22-year-old last kicked a ball for Al Ahly in July 2018 after suffering a knee ligament which forced him to miss the larger part of their league triumph last season.
Al Ahly were one goal down in Algiers when the Nigerian was introduced for Hussein El-Shahat on the 73rd minute much to the joy of the player and the traveling fans present at the stadium.
Al Ahly did, however, equalize five minutes from time when Karim Walid scored to ensure the Egyptian giants maintained their unbeaten start to the champions league.
The Rio Olympics bronze medalist will now hope for an improved performance that would pave way for a national team recall, especially as this year’s AFCON will take place in Egypt.
