Super Eagles’ skipper, Mikel John Obi has continued to make waves in England after he was named in the Championship Team of the Week following his eye-catching performance for Middlesbrough at the weekend, AOIFootball.com reports.
According to Bestchoicesports, the 31-year-old stood out in the Boro midfield as Britt Assombalonga’s first-half strike earned Tony Pulis and his side all three points in their chase for Premiership promotion.
The Nigerian was included in the midfield trio alongside Luton Town’s George Moncur who scored a free-kick and Milton Keynes Dons youngster Jake Hesketh.
The statement said: “Mikel has quickly become a fan favourite at Boro, and it’s easy to see why on the latest evidence. The traveling fans sang his name throughout Sunday’s win at Blackburn Rovers, as the midfielder showed his class.”
With promotion his main aim at the Championship side, the former Chelsea midfield maestro will return to action on Saturday hoping to build on last week’s impressive win when Middlesbrough take on Queens Park Rangers.
