Super Eagles and Galatasaray of Turkey forward, Henry Onyekuru is elated after scoring his first official senior goal for Nigeria in their 3-1 win over Seychelles in Asaba on Friday, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Everton loanee was handed his first competitive start for the country and did not disappoint when he headed Nigeria in front six minutes into the second half to help the Eagles to a 3-1 win.
He, however, told AOIFootball.com exclusively afterwards that he was happy with his performance and know wants to switch attention to making the Nations Cup squad in June.
“Personally it was a good performance for me; we scored three goals and could have scored more but we are happy it ended in victory and we topped the group which was our main aim coming into the match.
“Of course it’s always nice to score for your country and doing it in front of the fans makes it more special. It’s officially my first after the game against Liberia and I hope to score more with the national team.
“The target now is to ensure I stay fit and continue to do well to ensure I make it to the Nations Cup because every player’s dream is to represent his country at a major international tournament,” Onyekuru concluded.
The 21-year-old featured in four of the Eagles qualifiers, starting once, scoring once and also grabbing one assist as he was limited to predominantly coming from the bench in those games.
