Super Eagles’ rising star, Samuel Chukwueze was again the hero for LaLiga side Villarreal as he scored the all-important goal in their 1-0 triumph away at Girona to ease the club’s relegation fears, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having suffered a morale dampening 3-1 loss in the Europa League on Thursday, the Nigerian was handed his 14th league start as Villarreal went in search of their seventh league win of the season.
It took the 19-year-old just seven minutes to register his intention in the clash as he finished off a classic counter attacking move after being put clean by Pablo Formals, showing composure to net his 5th league goal of the campaign.
After the half time break, the hosts rallied for a goal in the second half but fell short as the impressive Chukwueze was replaced by Alfonso Pedroza on the 76th minute amidst cheers from the visiting fans.
The win sees the Yellow Submarines move out of the relegation zone to occupy 15th position with 32 points with just five more games to the end of the season.
