Veteran Nigeria Professional Football League Coach and former Rangers Int’l FC tactician, Olugbenga Ogunbote has hailed the performance of the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, AOIFootball.com reports.
Speaking exclusively to AOIFootball.com, the soon to be unveiled Lobi Stars FC Technical Adviser, praised the team for winning the bronze, whilst maintaining that the gold would have been perfect for Nigeria.
“The team has done wonderfully well by settling for the bronze, although winning the trophy at this stage would have been the best for the country.
“The desire of Nigerians was for them to return home with the trophy, but finishing third in a twenty four team tournament like the AFCON, is not too bad,” Ogunbote said.
The Ogun State-born former Sunshine Stars FC and Enyimba Int’l FC Gaffer, went further to posit that the team is ripe enough to face the future, adding that the integral part of the current squad has age on their side.
He commended the handlers for edging out aged players, maintaining that with little additions the team would make them great again.
“The technical crew of the team has done a good job by gradually and tactfully edging out older players. The chunk of the current squad has age on their side, and all things being equal, they can compete for a long time to come.
“Just one or two necessary additions to the team would certainly provide the cutting edge, and the squad will be indomitable again,” Ogunbote concluded.
