Ahead of the 2019/2020 Italian League season, Super Eagles forward, Simy Nwankwo has set his sights on helping Crotone return to the pinnacle of Italian football as they prepare for life in the Serie B, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 27-year-old, who snubbed offers from series of European clubs to remain with Crotone, told AOIFootball.com exclusively ahead of their second-round Copa Italia clash at home to Sampdoria, that he hopes to do better than last season and help the club return to the Serie A.
“I am fully focused on Crotone this season. Last season was tough for the entire team but we hope to start well this term and try to gain promotion at the end of the season,” Simy said.
When asked of his ambition to return to the Eagles fold ahead of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, the lanky forward stated that although it remains his wish, he will just try to be better in the field of play.
“The aim is to always do better than the last year and of course a return to the Super Eagles is always a wish but not an obsession. I will just focus on doing well for my club and see what happens,” Simy concluded.
The former Gil Vicente FC forward opened this season’s account last weekend against Arezzo in a cup game and would hope to better the 14 goals he scored last season if he is to fire Crotone back to the Serie A.
