Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen continued to raise his stock in the transfer market after he put up yet another remarkable performance in his side’s penalty heartbreak loss to Lyon to crash out of the French League Cup in the final four, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having scored in back to back League cup games, the 20-year-old was hoping to become the first Lille player to score in three successive games in the competition, having previously leveled the record set by former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole when he scored in their quarterfinal win over Monaco last month.
The visitors, however, took a surprise lead on the 13th minute when the impressive Osimhen somehow found Renato Sanches with a bit of fortune and the former Bayern Munich young start tucked home for 1-0.
The goal then put Lyon back to life as they leveled almost immediately when top scorer and Premier League target Moussa Dembele kept his cool to make it 1-1 from 12 yards with both teams going into the break level.
Dembele then set up Houssem Aouar for 2-1 five minutes from time before Lille were awarded a controversial penalty deep into stoppage time with Loic Remy stepping up to convert for 2-2 and send the game straight into penalties.
Johnathan Bamba, however, gave Lille the worst possible start when he saw his kick saved by the goalkeeper to give Lyon an early advantage.
With Lyon leading 3-2 on penalties, Osimhen stepped up and fired a powerful spot-kick past the goalkeeper for 3-3 but when Thiago Mendes scored to put the hosts 4-3 up, Renato Sanches however fired wide to advance Lyon to the finals.
