Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has stated that the inability of the NPFL players to qualify for this year’s CHAN tournament in Cameroon might have affected their chances of getting into his Eagles squad after he once again called up only Ikechukwu Ezenwa for the Sierra Leone doubleheader, AOIFootball.com reports.

The Franco-German tactician who disclosed this much to AOIFootball.com in an exclusive interview stated that he remains committed to given the Local league players a chance in his squad whilst also suggesting a future CHAN friendly will help boost their chances of selection.

“There are local players we also look out for but unfortunately we can not see them in the CHAN tournament because I always take the best of players from there but unfortunately we did not qualify.

“We have a lot of local players as sometimes I watch their games and I believe we can use the friendlies to test some of them and should also do a CHAN friendly to test the best legs among them,” Rohr said.

Rohr, however, stands tall in giving opportunities to the local league players as he has invited no fewer than 24 NPFL players since taking over as Nigeria head coach in 2016.
