Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel John Obi has refused to be drawn into a possible transfer dilemma by keeping mum on the rumours linking him to a switch to Brazilian Serie A side Botafogo, AOIFootball.com reports.
The free agent, who recently ended his stint at Turkish side Trabzonspor, told AOIFootball.com exclusively with a rather sarcastic reply that anything and everything can happen in the world of football.
“Hahaha I don’t really know about this yet, but you know its football and it has a way of surprising us,” Mikel said.
The former Middlesbrough midfielder, however, acknowledged the interest in his service but stated that his future remains on the grass and he would take a decision once the COVID-19 pandemic is over worldwide.
Botafogo however on their part are looking to add the experienced midfielder to their ranks having recently brought in Japanese legend Keisuke Honda on a free transfer ahead of the 2020 Brasileiro Serie A season which begins next month.
Having played in Africa, Asia, and Europe, it would definitely be interesting to see if the 2013 AFCON winner moves across the continent to have a feel of South American football.
