Reigning African champions, Algeria will be without France-based midfielder Zinedine Fermat for Friday’s friendly clash against Nigeria due to injury, AOIFootball.com reports.

The Nimes Olympique midfielder had a medical checkup on Wednesday with a result confirming that he has a groin injury and will now miss the Foxes games against Nigeria and Mexico respectively.

His absence will come as a huge blow to Algeria heading into the clash, as he’s the country’s most dangerous player after a blistering start to the Ligue 1 season which has seen him score 3 goals and provided 2 assists in 6 games.

However, there is positive news for Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi who welcomed Al-Sadd forward Baghdad Bounedjah to the squad on Wednesday and he could be in shape to feature against Nigeria on Friday.

In a repeat of the 2019 AFCON semifinals, both nations will go head to head at the Wòrthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt with kickoff put at 7:30 pm Nigerian time.
