Contrary to fears expressed by many Nigerians over the triumph of the Indomitable Lions of cameroon as African champions ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers with the Super Eagles, Godfrey Oboabona has said he is confidently looking forward to the crunch tie.
Oboabona, who was part of the 2013 AFCON winning Super Eagles’ squad, said the emergence of Cameroon as African champions will make Nigeria buckle up.
“I am so happy that we are playing against the champions. That makes us strong and more serious because when we beat the champions, we would be taken more seriously”.
When asked about the threat posed by Vincent Aboubakar who also plays in the same league as Oboabona, the Rizespor defender reckons he and other gangling defenders of the Super Eagles can handle him.
“I know some of them. They are good players both the ones that participated in the AFCON and the ones that were not invited,” said Oboabona.
There is a large number of Super Eagles’ players who presently ply their trade in Turkey and Oboabona affirmed that the unity in the Super Eagles extends beyond the shores of Nigeria.
“We use to relate very well before games and after.”
This suggests that the players have also been working towards achieving the goal with the national team.
He however cautioned on what has to be done if the Eagles are to be in Russia 2018, saying the team needs to be “more serious and determined”.
