Sunshine Stars of Akure have assured that the club’s supporters that the Nigeria Professional Football League match against Rivers United on Sunday will be honoured.

 

The players made the pledge through their captain Abe Sunday during a meeting with the Ondo State Football Association led by Otunba Dele Ajayi.

 

Abe, who claimed the players are being owed salaries since August 2016, however said the players never abandoned training despite the ills.

 

“We had to make our grievances known through series of protests as we could no longer travel the length and breath of Nigeria and play on empty stomachs”.

 

“But this morning, all players came out to train”.

He assured the Chairman of the League Management Company, Alhaji Shehu Dikko,that Sunday’s scheduled televised game will not be boycotted as initially threatened.

 

Earlier, the Chairman of Ondo State FA, Otunba Dele Ajayi had stated that the new government in the state has got wind of the present development and has promised to settle all indebtedness to the players.

 

“Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is aware of the financial crisis in the team. He has promised that his administration will be on top of the situation.

 

The governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who was for years the Chairman of 3SC Elite Supporters Club has shown through his body language that he is ready to reposition the club.”
