Niger Tornadoes’ Coach, Abubakar Bala has said that he is not surprised that big teams like Rangers, Rivers United, Enyimba FC and others are struggling to get results in the league this season.

According to him, their pre-season tours and recruitments showed they were going to struggle.

In an exclusive interview with, Bala stressed that the smaller teams have more hunger and desire to succeed than the big teams and are also ready to make a mark in the league this season.

He noted further that the smaller teams are more resolute in the fight for the league title this season which has made the league more competitive.

“I saw it coming right from the preseason period when we were having tournaments in Ijebu Ode. I saw the preparation of the big teams and the recruitments, as well as the preparation of the small and big teams; then I realised that this season was going to be difficult.”

“The small teams are having a very high desire and are ready to make a mark in the league; they want to change the face of the Nigerian league, do not want the big teams to continue their dominance of the NPFL title,” Bala said.
