Former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Emmanuel Babayaro has called for the recall of Lille Metropole shot-stopper Vincent Enyeama back to the Super Eagles, insisting he can solve the goalkeeping crisis currently rocking the team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifier against South Africa.
Speaking exclusively to AOIFootball.com, Babayaro maintained that the former Enyimba FC goalie was the best around and despite the differences between him and the federation in the past, he still has so much to give the national team.
“Vincent is still the best around. Ikeme has proven his worth though, but the frequent injuries that he’s been suffering have not helped his cause and that of the Super Eagles. So, the NFF must as a matter of urgency resume talks with Enyeama in order to have him back in the Eagles,” said Babayaro.
When asked if there are possible replacements in case Enyeama refuses to return, Babayaro opined that the current options are just not good enough to man the post for the Eagles, reiterating that they lack confidence which is needed in every team going into such an important game.
“Ezenwa and Akpeyi are both good goalkeepers but they have shown lack of confidence whenever they are selected to stand between the sticks for the team. A team can be said to be solid at the back if they have quality coverage at the back and that starts with the goalkeeper,” said the former Plateau United shot-stopper.
