The Chairman, Nigeria Football Federation Referees Appointment Committee Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, has described as fantastic, the away results recorded in the Nigeria Professional Football league on match day 20.
The NPFL witnessed impressive away results when the league resumed from the midseason break as FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Enyimba International and Lobi Stars all recorded victories away from home, while Plateau United and Akwa United forced their host’s to a draw.
These results amused Fresh, who hailed the referees, as well as the League Management Company on their relentless efforts to take the Nigerian league to global reckoning.
“It was a fantastic match day. Nigeria had never witnessed such a day and football fans in the country won’t forget such a day.
“The referees must continue with such audacious performance. Very soon, FIFA development committee will be in Nigeria, they’ll be here to ascertain many things as regards the referees. If we want Nigerian referees to officiate at the World Cup, then we have to first get it right with the league.
“I want to give kudus to the LMC for having a good framework and regulations. It’s a good one the referees are following. Any referee that wants to move forward must follow the framework of the LMC,” Fresh concluded.
Meanwhile, Fresh has hailed the record breaking feat of Kano State, describing the state as a leading light when it comes to football in Nigeria.
Fresh, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the Kano State Division 1 football league which comprises 217 teams, did not hide his feelings has he emphatically declared that:
“We have never witnessed what we are seeing here today. No state in Nigeria has achieved what Kano state has today. I repeat, no state in Nigeria has. I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen because it goes a long way to show that indeed, they’re a leading football state in the country”.
