Qatar-based Super Eagles’ striker, Babatunde Michael is confident that he still has a place in the team’s line-up whenever he is invited.
Michael, who scored 25 goals with 10 assists to propel his club, Qatar Sports Club to the elite league in his base, told in an exclusive chat that what is uppermost on his mind is to continue to keep his form in the best of shape for any possible invitation to the Nigeria senior national team, where he is optimistic of grabbing a shirt when the opportunity arises.
He said, with the high level of competition and the demand of responsibilities in his club, only disciplined players can excel while plying their trade in Qatar.
Michael said though he can’t speak of his future moves despite offers from China and some European clubs, he is keen on serving out his contract to create stability for the team in the elite league.
“I must tell you, playing for the Super Eagles is the dream of any Nigerian player and I have been part of the team; I am confident that anytime an invitation is extended to me by the handlers, I will definitely make my impact.
“I know Coach Rohr is going to give every good player a chance to showcase what they have and since I was able to break into the main team in the past, making it if I am invited again, will not be a big problem.
“Every day I pray for the success of the team and I am confident that with the way the team is progressing, qualifying for the Russia 2018 World Cup and the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon will not be a big problem; we just have to stay focused and we will get there,” Michael said.
Michael further added that the Super Eagles will see off the Bafana Bafana of South Africa when both teams trade tackles in Uyo in June for a place in the 2019 AFCON.
He also revealed that with his experience in Ukraine, Morocco and now in Qatar, he was not in a hurry to jump into another ship without proper consideration of other extraneous factors in taking a position on his next move if the need arises.
