The Nigeria Football Federation says its on the trail of Feyenoord FC U-15’s American-born Nigerian winger, Lateef Omidiji Jr.
Omidiji comes highly recommended. The 13-year-old striker currently plays for the Under-15 team of Feyenoord and has impressed since joining from second division side, FC Dordrecht in Netherlands.
Former Coach of the National U-15, Danladi Nasidi, who watched him play when he was in the United States in 2014, once revealed many countries were on the little boy’s heels but that Nigeria needs to get hold of him before he is snatched off.
“Many countries are interested in him, but since I’m monitoring his activities, I want to make sure we get hold of him before any other country,” Nasidi said.
“He’s a small boy and if he comes to play for Nigeria, it will be good, ” he added.
Now, a year later, the Nigeria Football Federation have revealed they will maintain focus on the prodigy’s development.
A series of tweets posted on the official twitter handle of the federation revealed that the football body, through its 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi who is also the chairman of its Youth Committee, are keeping a close eye on the young lad’s development at Feyenoord.
“Nigerian youngster, @LateefOmidijiJr is certainly one for the future. Presently with Feyenoord FC U15 Academy in the Netherlands. The 13 year old (@LateefOmidijiJr) is being shadowed by a couple of countries. However, NFF’s 1st VP and chair of Youth Committee, Seyi Akinwunmi says the NFF is on @LateefOmidijiJr‘s trail,” the NFF posted.
Omidiji Junior can play in any position in the attack from right wing, left wing, center mid and striker, according to him, he is called “speedy” in Holland and he’s got great eye for goals. He is certainly one for the future.
