General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Muhammed Sanusi, has said that there is no cause for alarm and that Nigerians should not panic over the state of health of Super Eagles’ goalie, Carl Ikeme who was recently diagnosed of acute leukemia.

Speaking exclusively with, Sanusi said that the news of Carl’s ailment is a sad one because Nigeria needs all her best hands to be on deck against Cameroon and Carl is one of them, but believes he is a fighter that would soon get back to action. He also added that Coach Gernot Rohr will work very hard to get a very good goalkeeper against the Indomitable Lions in August.

“Since the news of Ikeme’s diagnosis broke, no Nigerian has been happy about it; I have tried to reach him on behalf of the NFF but the call didn’t pull through even though I sent him a get well soon message which I believe he has received now.

“I believe the coach by now is doing all he can do to get a replacement for Ikeme who happens to be one of our best hands for now.

“I believe there will be no cause for alarm over Ikeme; I just want all Nigerians to continue to pray for him to get well soon,” he said.
