Akwa United Coach, Abdul Maikaba, has said that his side played their best game in Sunday’s NPFL clash against relegation threatened Gombe United.

According to him, his team were generous in the first half but became aggressive in the second half when they realised that Gombe United were trying to run away with a point.

Maikaba told that his side played their best game against the NPFL strugglers because they needed the points more than their opponents.

“We are happy about the result against Gombe United. At this point, every game is important and that is why we cannot take any game lightly. We are working hard for the remaining game of the season, and that’s why we played our best game against Gombe United on Sunday.

“Gombe United are a very good side and they played good football against us, but we needed the maximum points more than them. In the first half, it was as if it was going to be a ding-dong affair, but when we realized that they were trying to run away with a point, we bombarded them with goals,” Maikaba concluded.
