Akwa United coach, Abdul Maikaba

With just about six-match days to the end of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season, the Technical Adviser of Akwa United FC, Abdullahi Maikaba, still believes strongly that the Promise Keepers can emerge champions of the elite league.

He maintained that considering the circumstances surrounding their performances earlier in the season, it is still very possible for the Uyo-based side to put up a successful challenge and land the League title at the end of the day.

“I am not just optimistic that we will earn a continental slot; I believe we can win the NPFL title this season,” he enthused.

The former Wikki Tourists FC gaffer sighted an instance where results were not forthcoming for the club, and maintained that if their fortunes could be turned around between Match Day 6 and now, by reason of hard work and determination, then anything is possible.

“We are presently third on the NPFL log and we are not leaving anything to chance as per our resolve to winning the league.
It is still within our reach,” he stated.

“After 6 matches into the current NPFL season we occupied the 19th position. Now with 6 games to go and 7 points separating us and the table toppers, a lot can still happen,” he added.

“If you calculate the level of my team’s acceleration between the early stages of the league and now, you will that no other team is better than us. So I believe we can do it,” he concluded.

Akwa United FC are currently third on the NPFL log, behind Plateau United FC of Jos and MFM FC of Lagos.
