It was another fantastic weekend for Nigeria players across the globe, with especially the Belgium based players doing so well over the weekend.

In our usual style, brings you up to speed with their performances as we count down to the big game against Zambia in Uyo next month.


Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi: Super Eagles dazzling winger Victor Moses was in action for all 90 minutes as champions Chelsea played out a disappointing goalless draw against London rivals Arsenal who had Nigerian Alex Iwobi in the starting line up.

The attacker started his first Premier League game of the season as he helped the gunners to a vital away point; he was however substituted in the 80th minute of the match.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa: Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho made his first Premier League start for new club Leicester City as they held Huddersfield Town to a 1 – 1 draw.

Iheanacho was replaced in the 79th minute by Okazaki while fellow Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi was on for the entire match duration.

Ahmed Musa continues to be overlooked by Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare as he’s yet to make the match day squad in the EPL this season despite scoring in the EFL cup last month.

Isaac Success: Former  Nigerian U-17 winning striker Isaac Success continued to watch from the bench for the third consecutive match as Watford’s unbeaten start to the Premier League ended with a 6 nil thrashing at home to Manchester City.

The striker is yet to feature this season under Coach Marco Silva.

Ola Aina: Super Eagles utility defender  Ola Aina was on for the entire duration of Hull City’s 1 – 1 draw at home to Sunderland.

The on loan Chelsea defender who started at right wing back was impressive for the tigers as he helped them end a run of consecutive back to back  league losses.



Dennis Emmanuel Bonaventure: Nigerian striker Dennis Emmanuel played the final 23 minutes of Club Brugge’s two nil win over KV Mechelen in the Belgium First Division.

The 19 year old attacker has scored 4 goals this season in the league having just featured in 4 matches this season.

Henry Onyekuru and Abduljelil Ajagun:Nigeria duo of Onyekuru and Abdul Ajagun were on song for their respective clubs as KV Kortrijk hosted Anderlecht.

Ajagun who is yet to be capped by Nigeria at senior level having captained the Nigeria at the under 20 level scored his first goal of the season when he equalised for the home team in the 52nd minute to make score at one all.

Onyekuru on the other hand was introduced in the 68th minute, with his side 2 – 1 down the on loan Everton player poked in a rebound in the 76th minutes to salvage a point for Anderlecht as the match ended 2 – 2.

Onyekuru as now scored 3 goals in 2 league matches having failed to score in his previous 5.

Taiwo Awoniyi and  Peter Olayinka: Former Dream Team VI striker Taiwo Awoniyi continued his impressive form in front of goal, when he opened scoring in the 15th minute for Royal Excel Mouscron away to Olayinka’s Zulte Waregem, however the goal was not enough as they fell 2–1.

Peter Olayinka on the other hand was on from start to finish and picked up a yellow card in the first half as the 21 year old could not add to his 3 league goals.

Moses Simon, Anderson Esiti and Joseph Akpala: Nigerian internationals Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti helped their club side KAA Gent to their first victory of the season away to KV Oostende who had Joseph Akpala on the bench for the entire duration of the match.

Moses and Esiti featured from start to finish for Gent.

UCHE AGBO: Super Eagles defender Uche Agbo was in action as his club side Standard Liege played out 1 – 1 draw with As Eupen.

The defender started the match and picked up a yellow card in the 56th minute before been substituted with 7 minutes of regulation time left.



Odion Ighalo and John Obi Mikel: Super Eagles’ duo of Mikel Obi and Odion Ighalo Squared up against themselves when Tianjin Teda hosted Changchun Yatai in the Chinese super league.

Odion Ighalo put in a man of the match performance as he scored one and assisted another in a 5–1 thrashing of Mikel’s Tianjin Teda, a result which further condemns Tianjin Teda and Mikel to the relegation waters

Ighalo who scored the fifth and final goal for his side has now scored 12 goals in 23 matches for Changchun Yatai, an average of 0.5 per match and a scoring frequency of one goal every 171 minute.

Anthony Ujah: Nigerian striker Anthony Ujah was on for the entire duration for his Chinese club Liaoning Shenyang as they lost 1 – 2 at home to an inspired Ezequiel Lavezzi’s Hebei China Fortune.

The striker was however the provider for he’s side solitary strike when he set up Christian Bakamenga to tap home.



Paul Onuachu and Rilwan Hassan: Nigeria Internationals Rilwan Hassan and Paul Onuachu continued to fly the country’s flag high in Denmark as they were both in action as FC Midtjylland thrashed visiting Hoboro 5–1 in the Denmark Superligaen Round 9

Hassan started the match and assisted Alexander Sorloth to put Midtjylland 3 goal up, the attacker was however withdrawn with 6 minutes of regulation time remaining.

While Onuachu was introduced in the 64thminute and got on the score sheet with two minute left to play.

Paul Onuachu has now scored 5 goals in 6 games with an average of 0.8 goals per game and a scoring frequency of 67 minute per goal.



Gbolahan Salami and Gabriel Rueben: Former Enyimba and Shooting Stars striker Gbolahan Salami was the hero for his finish side KuPS Kuopio as they beat Vaasan Palloseura 1–3 away.

Salami who was introduced in the 76th minute scored twice within the space of three minutes to hand his club a vital away win.

His compatriot and former Enyimba of Aba midfielder Gabriel Rueben was on for the entire duration of the game,

Salami now has 7 goals and 3 assist in 20 games, with an average of 0.4 goals per game and a scoring frequency of 211 minutes per goal.



Chidozie Awaziem: Super Eagles defender Awaziem Chidoziem put in a man of the match performance, with an assist as Nantes defeated SM Caen 1 nil in the  French league 1.

The defender started in the middle of a back four and was rock solid for Nantes.

Awaziem was the provider for Andei Girotto to score the winning goal in the 73rd minute of the match.

The on loan Porto defender made 7 clearances, 2 interceptions, won 1 tackle, won 6 of his 8 Duels, made 2 key passes and was fouled 3 times.



Leon Balogun: Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was on the end of a brutal 4 – 0 bashing by German champions Bayern Munchen over the weekend.

The defender was part of a back three but could do little to prevent his side from loosing.

Victor Osimhen and Felix Udokhai: Nigerian youngster Victor Osimhen was on the bench for all 90 minutes as Wolfsburg were beaten 1 nil away to VfB Stuttgart.

While Felix Udokhai was on for all 90 minute for Wolfsburg, the defender is born to a Nigerian mother and father.



Tyronne Ebuehi: Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi was on from start to finish as ADO Den Haag held Ajax to a 1 – 1 draw at home

Kelechi Nwakali: Former under 17 world cup winning captain kelechi Nwakali could not replicate last week’s super sub heroics when he was introduced in the 75th as VVV Venlo drew 1 all away to Vitesse.



Samuel Adegbenro: Nigerian international Samuel Adegbenro was in action for 20 minutes as his club Rosenborg BK beat Valerenga 3 – 0 over the weekend.

Valerenga also had in their books 19 year old Nigerian attacker Chidere Ejuke who was on the bench for all 90 minute.

Chidiebere Nwakali: Former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star Chidiebere Nwakali was in action for his Norwegian club Sogdal IL as they lost 0–1 at home to Haugesund who also had on their books 19 year old Nigeria defender Izuchukwu Jude Anthony.



Troost Ekong, Mikel Agu and Azubuike Okechukwu: Super Eagles defender William Troost Ekong scored his first goal of the season as Bursaspor beat Yeni Malatayaspor 2 – 4 over the weekend.

The defender scored from in the 12th minute when he volleyed in a rebound from a corner kick.

Ekong won 2 duels and had a  93.1% pass accuracy.

While fellow team mate Mikel Agu was on for all 90 minute and picked up a yellow card in the 30th minute.

Azubuike on the other hand was on the losing side as the former  Nigerian U23 captain was also on from start to finish.

Kenneth Omeruo and Samuel Eduok: Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo played 23 minutes of Kasimpasa 2 nil loss away to Galatasaray

While Samuel Eduok was withdrawn in the 55th minute having picked up  a yellow card.

Raheem Lawal, Umar Aminu and Elderson Echijele: Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejele was a late first half substitute as he helped is club Sivasspor triumph over Osmanlispor who had Lawal and Aminu.

Lawal was on for the entire duration while Umar Aminu was introduced at half time but could not stop his side from losing as they fell 2- 4 at home.

Ogenyi Onazi: Super Eagles vice-captain Eddie Ogenyi Onazi was on the pitch for just four minutes in Trabzonspor 2 all draw away to Istanbul Basaksehir.

The midfielder was introduced in the 86thminute but could not repeat last weekend heroics where he scored a late goal.
