Ghana’s Black Stars thrashed the Super Eagles B 4-1 in the final to lift the sub –regional WAFU Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.

A goal by Stephen Sarfo with one minute left in the first half, when he was allowed to turn and drill past goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa whose eyesight was impaired by a couple of defenders, broke the deadlock of what was a tightly –contested game until then.

The Black Stars, who failed to qualify for next year’s African Nations Championship, won a penalty in the 58th minute that Atingah easily put past goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

Second half substitute Patrick, the slippery winger who won the first penalty for the Black Stars with his first encounter with the ball, earned another 20 minutes later, and this time, Stephen Sarfo made it two for himself on the day by sending Ezenwa the wrong way.

Then, one minute to full time, a defensive blunder by goalkeeper Ezenwa and Stephen Eze led to the Ghanaians being presented with another opportunity and Cobbina made no mistake to make it a rout against the Eagles.

With the last kick of the game, veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali curled the ball past Black Stars goalkeeper Addo from a 20 –yard free –kick for Nigeria’s only goal of the day.

Despite the inundation in the final, Ezenwa still won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, as Sarfo picked up the Top Scorer’s award and fellow Black Star Twum was named Player of the Tournament.

The Mena of Niger Republic picked up the bronze medals after a 2-1 defeat of Benin Republic in the third place match that held before the final.
