Former Flying Eagles’ Captain, Ramon Azeez scored his first goal for Spanish Segunda Division CD Lugo in a 2-1 away win to Barcelona B on Monday night.

The former Almeria star equalised on the stroke of half time when he received a lovely pass from Fede Vico to slot past Jokin Ezkieta in the Barcelona goal.

It was the defensive midfielder’s first goal in the colours of CD Lugo after six league outings and the result leaves Lugo 7th on the Segunda Division table with 10 points from six games.

The 24-year-old, who spoke to after the game, said he was happy to open his goals account for the season.

“It was a great one for me to score my first goal of the season and I was also happy we won the match. Hopefully, I will score more goals and lead the team to the Premiere Division next season.

“The league is a very competitive one and I have played here with Almeria and I know what it takes to succeed in it,” Azeez enthused.

The young lad also gave his views on the Super Eagles’ game against Zambia, saying he believes in the ability of the current crop of players in the team to get the job done.

“I have followed the Super Eagles’ games all through the qualifiers and I have no doubt in my mind that we will beat Zambia in Uyo because the team is united and playing fantastic football. I must give kudos to the Federation and the handlers of the Super Eagles,” he said.

The Brazil 2014 World Cup star also added that even though it might be a bit tough for him, he still hopes to get invited to play for the Super Eagles in the nearest future.

“I was at the World Cup in 2014 and it was a lovely experience for me and I hope I can still play in many more World Cups for the Super Eagles in the future.

“I have not ruled out the possibilities of playing for Nigeria again as I am always available to give my best to the team any time I am called upon and I am very optimistic that the current coach of the Super Eagles knows what is best for his team and hopefully, if I continue my impressive form, I might also get a look-in for the team.

Azeez was part of late Stephen Keshi’s squad to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and started in the Super Eagles’ opening game against Iran.
