Newly appointed El-Kanemi Warriors’ Coach, Imama Amakapabo, has promised to take the Maiduguri-based club to the summit of Nigerian football, come next season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The former Enugu Rangers gaffer, who is also the Assistant Coach of the home-based Super Eagles, spoke exclusively to minutes after the confirmation of his appointment.

He said he was delighted to be back in the league and hopes to put El-Kanemi Warriors at the peak of Nigerian football.

“I joined El-Kanemi because they match my ambition as a coach. I spoke with the management and we had a very good understanding on how I want to operate here and they agreed to that, so it’s a good deal for both parties.

“I know how tough the job will be for me but just like when I won the league with Rangers, nobody gave us a chance but we were able to achieve our aim. I am not promising to win the title outrightly but Nigerians will see a different El-Kanemi under my care,” Imama said.

The 2016 title winning coach also said that he will be adding some new faces to the team ahead of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

“I spoke with the former coach already and he gave me a report of the players; I am already in touch with few players and the Maiduguri fans should expect quality signings ahead of next season.

“The target for me is always the same, I am a coach that loves success and that was what I did with Rangers and hopefully, I will repeat it with El-Kanemi next season. It will be tough but I am up to the task,” Imama added.

Imam will officially be unveiled by El-Kanemi Warriors on Tuesday at a press conference in Maiduguri.
