Head Coach of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Akwa United, Abdullahi Maikaba, has said winning the oldest cup competition in the land will be a massive leap for his career and he’s determined to give it all it takes when they face Niger Tornadoes this weekend.

The former FC Abuja coach, who spoke to, shortly before his side departed for Lagos, venue of Sunday’s final, said it’s the first final of his career and he hopes to win it at the first time of asking.

“As a coach, I have never got this opportunity to play in a national cup final, and it is a life time opportunity and I am going to seize it and try to win it.

“I will give my all to make sure I prepare my team to leave nothing out in our preparation so that come Sunday, we will win the cup in Lagos,” Maikaba said.

The Akwa United gaffer also added that his side must not take the Ikon Allah boys for granted, because they have been turning out impressive results in the tournament this season.

“Tornadoes had a fine run coming into this game because they beat the current league champions (Plateau United) and the current FA Cup champions (Ifeanyi Ubah FC), so we cannot take them for granted,” he added.

Maikaba also posited that his team are fully focused and will bank on their goal scoring form to triumph over the boys from Niger State.

“Its goals that determine winners and we have scored the highest number of goals in the Aiteo Cup this season. I believe if we can score like we have been doing in previous rounds, we have a great chance to win the cupon Sunday.

“Tornadoes have had a fine run going into the final but we have had a better run,” Maikaba concluded.

Akwa United will square up against Niger Tornadoes in this year’s Aiteo Cup final at the Agege Stadium in Lagos on Sunday, with a mouth- watering N25 million and a CAF Confederations Cup ticket at stake.
